We spent a week on Lanta, an island close to Phuket and Krabi of Thailand. So that you could go there form Phuket or Krabi. Do you know Lanta?
I had go to Phuket for 4 times. so I have very formilar of what to do in Phuket. this time, we go to an island --- Koh lanta, a little far form phuket. The water is more blue and pure. And with fewer people.
Because it's not a hot destination like Koh Phi phi island. And the water is just same as Phiphi island.
It's not a destination like Patong as well, Patong is convinient for shopping and fun. but the sea in Patong is just soso. So for people who want to go for a beach vacation, Patong is not the good choice.
When we talk about Thai island, perhaps 60% people would say Phuket, 30% of them had heard of Koh Samui, and maybe only 10% will go Krabi, and 1% of the 10% will go to Lanta of Krabi. Do you hear of this? but it's with fewer people and more beatiful water there.
------------About Phuket------------
Phuket (Thai: ภูเก็ต, [pʰūː.kèt] ( listen)) is one of the southern provinces (changwat) of Thailand. It consists of the island of Phuket, the country's largest island, and another 32 smaller islands off its coast. It lies off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. Phuket Island is connected by the Sarasin Bridge to Phang Nga Province to the north. The next nearest province is Krabi, to the east across Phang Nga Bay.
You could see form the map, Phuket island is close to Krabi, and Ko phi phi in the middle. So that you could go to Ko Phi Phi island form Phuket and Krabi. And the destination of our tourism trip is Koh Lanta, which is in the southern of Krabi. We could also go to there from Phuket and Krabi. so that you could flight to Phuket or Krabi, due to the flight form your country.
Lanta is located in the southeast of Phuket. In the hot travel season from late November - - late April next year, there is ferry for Phuket to the lanta island. But for the other time, there is no ferry from Phuket. You can first fly to Krabi, then take a car to Lanta, by car ferry carrying two times.
Let's talk about Phuket. What to do in Phuket? Phuket is the most famous island of Thailand. and Patong beach is the most popular beach of Phuket. Most people go there and stay there for their first trip. I did also. As I memtion, I have go to Thailand beach for 4 times. Patong is convinient in life, Patong, the main town, has a more casual vibe and is filled with wild nightclubs, bars and discos. But the sea is really not recommend. You could go other beachs. there're many beaches there, it's better to go to karon or kata in Chalong beach.
At each beach of Phuket is convinient for you to arrange tour or snorkelling to other islands, such as Ko phi Phi, Lanta or others. You could book the package or van ticket at every tour agent. you could see everwhere there, on the street or in the hotel.
What to do in phuket?
There's a lot of water fun activities, such as diving, snorkelling.
And there's a lot of outdoor activities such as elephant riding, kart riding, Jungle Adventure.
You could book the activities at the tour agent.
and if you stay in patong, you could go for Bar, and colorful night life. or go to ladyboy show.
--------About Krabi -------
Krabi Town (Thai: กระบี่) is the main town in the province of Krabi (thesaban mueang) on the west coast of southern Thailand at the mouth of the Krabi River where it empties in Phang Nga Bay. As of 2010 the town had a population of 52,867. The town is the capital of Krabi Province and Krabi District. Tourism is an important industry. Krabi is 783 km south of Bangkok by road.
In fact, Krabi not far away from the famous beach Phuket. seeing form the map, PP island in the middle, Phuket on right, then Krabi on the left.
Krabi in the face of the Andaman sea, impact by marine monsoon climate, the first half of year hot, and the second half of year rainy.
Compare to the hustle and bustle of Phuket, Krabi is more quiet, laid-back, and with lower cost. Hotel is cheaper than Phuket hotel. And people there is more honest too . Although the market is smaller, and the activities is fewer, not as much as Phuket. but it's enough. and it's more more peaceful and comfortable. So that you could do your choice according to your needs.
---------------About Ao Nang-------------
Ao Nang is about 20 kilometers form Krabi. It's the most famous beaches of Krabi. It's like Patong beach of Phuket. But the water quality here is much more better than Patong beach. And the water is not as good as PP and Lanta. As too many people going to PP, so as we want quiet, we go Lanta form Ao nang.
It's comvenient to stay here, if we want to go to the other islands such as Lanta and PP.

Koh Lanta island is divided into large and small Lanta, generally we are going big Lanta.
On the Lanta beach, there're hotels rank form north to south. The pier is located in the most northern of Lanta, it's called town Saladan. When you going to the south, the water is more clean and blue, the more south, the better water quality. Overall Koh Lanta is still relatively primitive, so less people going there. More quiet and beauty.

-------------About Trafic--------------
Trafic from Krabi to Lanta, there are two modes.
Method One: a car ferry (year-round)
From Krabi Airport, take about 1.5 to 3.5 hours at a cost of about: 3000B / car (1-6 people)
From Ao Nang beach, take about 2.5-4 hours at a cost of about: Minivan3900B / car (1-6 people)
Departure from Krabi town, take about 2-3.5 hours at a cost of about: Minivan3400B / car (1-6 people)
Method two: Ferry
Ferry only on form October or November to April next year. Stop form the rest of the year.
From Krabi to Lanta. Krabi pier is Chaofa Pier, Lanta pier is Saladan pier.

In Krabi, and if you want to walk arround Ao Nang, you can select the tuk-tuk car, not expensive, in the range of Ao Nang Beach: TUTU car, Taxi, 20-60B / person
Ao Nang Beach - Krabi: Taxi400-600B, or bus 60-90B / person ( Car drive when it's filled with 10 persons). You can bragin.
Or you could rent a motocycle. 200-250B/day.
In lanta, the motaocycle rent is also 200-250B/day.
-----------------About travelling on other islands---------------------
There're a lot of travelling agents on Ao nang beaches. so that you could go to the other islands by joining a group touring. there's a lot of packages, the biggest packages like 4 islands in one ( Tup Island, Chicken Island, Poda Island, Phra Nang Cave). you could playing on the beaches or Snorkeling. Railay beachs is a Island you could live there too.
You could also hide a long tail boat too, so that you could take your time for the island travelling. you could go wherever you want. and spent the time as you want too.
The final stop is Lanta, or from Krabi to Lanta no day trip, you need to live on the island to play. This time I travelled slowly one Lanta, so we stay there. So you could do the choice according to your time.

When we go to the beach, diving and snorkeling are the most popular activities. I didn't go diving, you have to find a coach, if you want diving.
about snorkeling, we have to take safety as the most important thing. Most occasions, it's very safe, but there's risk.
Personal recommendations, snorkeling, we'd better going out to sea. If snorkeling on seaside, really few fish too see, and the water is not pure enough.
